Trout fishing on the Pere Marquette River during the summer months is an exciting experience. This is the best time to catch a large brown on the surface.

Hoppers

Hopper fishing is a fun and exciting way to fish during the daylight hours. Warm, breezy days force these clumsy swimmers into the water and make them easy meals for trout. Big trout love these big, easy meals and they are always looking to ambush a grasshopper.

Drakes and Hexes

Evening and nighttime hatches or spinner falls of gray drakes and hexes provide excellent fishing late into the day. Gray drakes normally begin around the end of May with the hexes a few weeks behind them. Both with bring trout up and feeding. The hex hatch is widely known as the best time to catch a large trout. Big trout will throw caution to the wind when the giant mayflies appear.

Mousin'

For the late night hours into the early morning, mousin' can provide a violent strike from a large, predatory brown at any time. Big trout do most of their feeding at night during the summer months and they are always in searh of a big meal. If you haven't tried mousin' yet and you enjoy searching for big trout, this is definitely something you have to try.
