Well the seasons have changed and it's now time to chase chrome, fall and winter run Steelhead, up here in Northern Michigan. I'm pretty excited this year for the Steelhead season. This last spring I had the pleasure of meeting and fishing with Tim Rajeff of Echo rods and Air Flo lines, and Tom Larimer. Tom used to guide here in Northern Michigan and now resides in Oregon, where he has established an awesome Outfitting business chasing Steelhead. Tom also developed a great web site for us Steelhead bums who enjoy's swinging flies with Spey Rods.
These two gave me the great oppurtunity to try some Air Flo's Spey lines and Skagit heads which have really taken off on the West Coast...and I realized why. These lines are great to cast and fish very well. Their Skagit heads are smooth, and for you guys who fish a lot of indicator set ups, I highly recommend their Speydicator line. This line was developed for long drag free drifts. A perfect set up for small or large rivers, and great for Switch or Spey rods. It has turned into my favorite Indy Line.
So this season I will be trying different Skagit heads and sink tips, and trying out the Speydicator line a little more. I will also be casting some Echo Spey and Switch rods which are great. I highly recommend checking them out if your in the market for one. Great Lakes Fly Fishing in Rockford carries both Airflo and Echo products. They are affordable, look nice and cast exceptionally well.

You can also check out Tom's Steelhead Bum web site at www.steelheadbum.com. It's a honor to join their team. Thanks guys.
Outfitters North Guide Service is located in Northwest Michigan in the town of Baldwin and home to the Pere Marquette River. Outfitters North specializes in
guided fly fishing trips for steelhead, king salmon, and resident trout. As a fly fishing guide service in the Midwest,
we enjoy good fishing throughout the year. Our location allows us to guide a variety of different rivers in this area including
the White River and Muskegon River, though our specialty is the Pere Marquette River watershed. This river is a beautiful spring
fed freestone creek that enjoys prolific insect hatches, including the legendary hex. In addition, it is famous for its large runs
of wild steelhead and king salmon. It is a river steeped in history as it was the first river in the nation to receive brown trout from Europe.
Because of its resident trout population and its cool water source, the state of Michigan has designated it a
blue ribbon trout stream. It is largely undeveloped and runs through large tracts of state and federal lands.
To help you really take in the sheer beauty of our rivers, we guide out of traditional drift boats. As you float
down the river you will, of course, have a chance at some wonderful fish. You will also have a great experience on a
classic trout stream. Though we really want you to enjoy the fishing and catching fish, it is not our only goal. We
want you to leave the river with a feeling that you have had a great fishing adventure.
